Checking out

To my loyal five followers :) As you can tell I haven't posted anything for awhile. I've been really busy lately with some other things, so I'm saying farewell to the blog. Throughout my MIA I will be keeping up with my favorite blogs, which are elements of style, little green notebook, high heel foot in the door, and Bryn Alexandra. Bye Bye

Snapshot

Here is a snapshot of the new paint on the walls in our bedroom. I finished the painting on Saturday and I'm soooo happy to cross something off my list! It's called beige shadow from valspar. It's a very calming color.

I've also started to work on the guest room makeover, as it's getting all of the master bedroom rejects :) Hopefully I'll make some progress over the weekend. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Featured on....

Please visit my friend Nicole's blog called The Projectory as she is featuring my dresser makeover. While you're over there please check out the makeover she did on her son's bedroom! Here's a glimpse

Final Master Bedroom choices!!!!!

Ok I'm through the detour and I'm making the final bedroom design choices and not letting myself change my mind!!!! I'm ready to start and finish this project.

I just received the Nate Berkus Paris bedding in brown from HSN.

The scroll is a silver gray color.

I got this chair from craigslist a couple of weeks ago that I think should be a somewhat easy reupholster job. If you look really closely you can see a man and a woman dancing ;)

I'm trying to decide on the fabric though.

maybe this

or this

or even this
I'll be painting the bedroom this week a color called beige shadow. It's a true gray color, with really nothing to do with beige. I'm going to order this fabric for pillows for the bed. I think it will tie in nicely with the silver scroll on the bedspread.

Maybe throwing in a couple plum plush pillows from pier 1.

I'm planning on making the headboard with white faux leather fabric, since the walls will be darker. I'm still on the search for night stands and a vanity, so hopefully craigslist will come through!!

I PROMISE no more changing my mind people! I'm sticking to this.

Detour

Well I didn't start my headboard this weekend, BUT I did buy some paint. I painted one wall and decided it wasn't the color I was hoping for. GRRRR. I know I've decided on the color scheme for our bedroom, but I saw this bedding tonight and well...I'm on a detour. I just love the ethnic print and the color scheme. Why can't I make up my mind??!!!

Lighting

Currently in our dining room off the kitchen we have this little guy. A typical builder light fixture.

I've wanted to change it our for awhile now. A had one in mind that I really love, however I had some reservations because I didn't want it to clash with the style of the house. That all went away when I saw this dining room by Sarah Richardson. The decor seems very traditional, but has an eclectic feel with the linear chandelier thrown in.

One of these days I will be ordering it from Overstock at a pretty good price!

Headboard Inspiration

This weekend I plan to make our headboard. I'll of course take pictures throughout the process. Above is the inspiration for the headboard made by Michelle.

I'll upholster it using this gray velvet fabric and I'll use silver nail head trim for the outline of the headboard.

Wish me luck!!!

Fabric Inspiration

This pillow represents our bedroom color scheme. I'll be purchasing the fabric to make 2 pillows for our bed. I'm so happy to have finally decided on the colors! Purple was my first choice, but I kept swaying on other colors. When I starting thinking about all signs pointed to purple. Our wedding colors were purple and the hotel room we stayed in for our 1st anniversary had a purple scheme. My friend Melanie's bedroom is also going to have purple in it, so it will be fun as we makeover our rooms together. :)

Moroccan Cuisine

I went to visit my mom this past weekend and had a great time. I have a friend who is Moroccan and since I'm obsessed with all things Moroccan she recommended a Moroccan restaurant in Dallas, TX called Medina. I've wanted to go for awhile now, so my mom and I took the plunge and went to Dallas to eat there for lunch. Wow! The food was amazing. I ordered Marrakesh chicken and my mom ordered the oven roasted chicken pizza. Although the cuisine was to die for, the interior decor was even better!

I recognized that pattern from Canada House & Home. I would love to use that fabric for our bedroom, but it comes in at $100 a yard so that won't be happening.

If you're ever in downtown Dallas you need to try Medina. You won't regret it!

Ta Da!!

Finally I have a finished product! Here is the dresser I've been working on. The beautiful fixtures, that I think make the dresser, came in the mail yesterday. This was my first time to paint furniture and I definitely learned quite a few lessons along the way.

Patio Inspiration

When I saw this picture on the cover of the June Elle Decor issue, I fell in love with everything about it.

I was on craigslist today, which is becoming a normal routine of mine, and this patio set reminded me so much of that picture!

I know it's not exactly the same, but it definitely looks similar. It just goes to show you that you don't have to spend a fortune to get any inspired look. Craigslist is not an enemy of mine!!!

Dresser Update

This dresser makeover is turning into a longggggggg process, but I think we're getting closer to the finish line. In the meantime, I just ordered the new hardware. I wanted to go for a look similar to these dressers.

So I'm ordering these lovely pulls. Hopefully I'll have after pics by next year :)

Dresser

This weekend I started on the first project for our master bedroom design extravaganza! I purchased the dresser from craigslist about four months ago....I know procrastinator....for $65! I'll have the after pics hopefully by Friday!

Someday...

Someday once our backyard is complete I would love to have a pergola just like this one! At $460 it's actually very reasonably priced for a pergola. Although it's made of steel not wood.

I love this room...minus the zebra head. I would use extra zebra fabric instead :) The carpet is beautiful!

photo gallery

About a month ago I decided to create a family photo gallery in our small hallway. I only had to go out a purchased two of the frames. To make them all look uniform, I spray painted all of the frames white and turned all of the photos into black and white. I'm pretty satisfied with the way it turned out. :)

The Backyard Project

Well this summer we've only worked on the yard twice, but we are definitely motivated to conquer the wilderness by next Spring.

Here is what the yard looked like when we bought our house:

Here it is to date (please excuse the poor lighting)

Still have a lot of work ahead of us, but it's nice seeing the progress!

Bathroom Makeover

Last weekend I took on the challenge of our guest bathroom. For awhile I couldn't decide between painting it a light blue or green color. Well when I saw the stripes in this bathroom I changed my entire direction.

Here is the before pics:

AFTER!

Note: I need to raise/alter the length of the shower curtain, but I just couldn't wait to post the pics!

trip to Sherman, TX

I went to visit my mom this weekend and of course we did a little shopping. We made a trip to big lots and I started freaking out when I saw a garden seat that looks exactly like Ballard Designs $139 version!!! Guess how much it was........$20!!!! I couldn't believe it, so of course I had to buy it. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying two.

Here it is in action underneath our console table...see I told you I needed two.

Before I became a tightwad I purchased the same exact side table from io-metro for $80! Still cheaper than Ballard, but nowhere near the big lots price!

Another amazing find was purchased at T.J. Maxx. By now I'm sure it's pretty obvious that I'm in love with all things Moroccan. I love the riad type embellishments, so when I saw these boxes I fell in love. Total price for the two - $5.

Check out these look a like picture frames with the same decal of the boxes for...drumroll please.....$100! Ahhh I feel so good! My husband should be so proud :)

Moroccan Inspiration

Our master bedroom is definitely a blank canvas, consumed with brown! I'm always looking for ideas and inspirations...

Enter Morroco stencils from royal design studio. OMG these prints are aaamaazzing!!!

Look what they did to the ceiling of a new hotel in Moroccan

So here is our master bedroom ceiling....obviousley the fan will have to go! I could do the stencil in gray and white since I plan the color scheme in our MB to be gray, dark purple, black, and white.

Throw out the fan and replace with this amazing beauty. Too much?!
